Ruru brings Pramadvara back to life and avenges her death from the snakes
Do you all comprehend that sage Ruru truly sacrificed half of his life to bring his beloved lifeless Pramadvara back to life? No doubt we discover so many committed females showing their devotional love to their husbands in Vedic tales. Apart from committed wives, many superb sages had carried out so many things for their loved wives such as Sage Agastya who had even eaten and destroyed demons only to fulfil his spouse Lopamudra's desire, Old Sage Chyavana had acquired youth for his wife Sukanya. Here in this blog post, we will know about sage Ruru who was the grandson of sage Chyavana, and his vengeance on all the snakes. Sage Chyavana; son of Great Bhrigu(one of the seven Great sages or Saptarishis) had a son from his wife Sukanya named Pramati. Pramati had a son named Ruru from Grtachi Apsara.
During these days a girl child was born to Gandharva king Vishvavasu and pretty Menaka Apsara. Menaka left that baby near a river close to courteous sage Sthulakesha's hermitage. The sage out of mercy took up the child and brought her up in his hermitage like her own daughter. She grew up into a beautiful lady amongst all other graceful women, subsequently, she was named 'Pramadvara(Pramadwara)'. One day Sage Ruru noticed appealing Pramadvara in Stulakesha's hermitage and was consumed via lust. He let his father be aware of his feelings for Pramadvara. Pramati after consulting with sage Stulakesha confirmed the auspicious marriage date for both of them.

Before the ceremony was about to take place, Pramadwara used
to be once playing with her pals in the forest, by accident stepped on a snake
that was slumbering over there. Immediately that snake bit her. Beautiful
Pramadvara turned pale, lost consciousness, and died at that very moment. Stulakesha alongside other sages including Pramati and Ruru reached there
and noticed the lifeless Pramadvara. They all mourned for her. Ruru went to the dense forest and grieved
heavily. He announced that if he had been respectful towards the seniors and
gurus always, had efficaciously controlled his senses, and had worshipped Lord Krishna wholeheartedly then his beloved Pramadvara would become alive
again. Hearing such Debaduta informed Ruru that the daughter of the Gandharva king
was destined for that much life period only and it could no longer be changed.
However, he suggested to Ruru that he could still make Pramadvara alive again by letting her
have half of his age. Ruru gladly agreed and sacrificed his half of life
for his love.
Then Gandharva king Vishvavasu requested near Yamraja to make his daughter alive at the half age of Sage Ruru. Yamraja agreed and blessed her. After that, Ruru and Pramadvara got married and lived happily. They had a son named Shaunaka. Ruru whenever noticed any snake, used to hit it brutally to kill it.
However, one day he was about to hit a snake named 'Dundubha' who requested the sage not to kill him. That snake was sage Sahashrapata in his previous birth who was cursed by one Brahmin to turn out to be a snake due to the fact the sage once had scared off that Brahmin with a snake out of fun. He advised Ruru about the righteous acts of a Brahmin for showing mercy towards all the creatures. After understanding the wise assertion of The snake Ruru spared him and that snake was relieved from his curse. Later Ruru came to understand the Sarpa Satra yajna from his father Pramati.
