Arjuna defeats Chitrarath who attacks Pandavas for unnecessary
Do you all know that Gandharva had instructed Pandavas that nighttime is appropriate for themselves, Yakshas, and demons, whereas daytime is for human beings only? Do you all agree? Anyways coming back to that incident, I will explain here in my post about the conversation between Gandharva king Angaraparna or (Chitraratha) Chitrarath with Arjuna on account of the Gandharva's needless attack on Pandavas.
On the way to Draupadi's swayamvara, Pandavas reached Samasrayanam close to Ganga. All four brothers alongside Kunti were led by way of Arjuna, the place was dark as well as aloof and it was just earlier than nighttime. At that time jealous Gandharva king Chitrarath was swimming in the water of Ganga accompanied by his wives. He heard the footsteps of Pandavas and got angry. He warned them that, nighttime was suitable only for Gandharvas, Yakshas, demons, and humans were allowed to roam around throughout the daytime, also those who in no way followed it would get captivated by the way of Gandharvas. The powerful then Gandharva gave the Pandavas his introduction, citing his wonderful strength and his friendship with Kubera, and additionally cautioned them not to come in the direction of him in the water as the forest close to Ganga was once named after him, no one had ever dared to worry Gandharva during his swimming time in the water of Ganga.

Arjuna responded to that, "No one in specific has whole rights on Oceans, Himalayas, and Ganga and There is no such rule of fixed time even to visit incredible Ganga. Only a weak person will worship Gandharvas to avoid a fight with him." He mentioned then as per the narration of KrishnaDwaipayana Vyasa, "The Great Ganga that rises in the height of Himalayas, after getting divided into seven streams it merges into the ocean. Any individual who drinks the holy water of Saraswati, stastha, Sarayu, Gomti, and Gandaki rivers which appears from the root of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Plaksha river, get relieved from their sins. Ganga flows via the way of the sky and in Deities Loka, it is regarded as 'Alaknanda'. Ganga additionally flows as 'Baitarani' in Pitr Loka. Sinners can in no way attain these lokas. Hence On the earth, it flows with the name of Great Ganga and purifies it." After pointing out these to Chitrarath, Arjuna then announced the act of Gandharva prohibiting them from going into the holy river as in opposition to Sanatana Dharma.
Being defeated by way of Arjuna, Chitrarath decided no longer to boast about his strength and leave the name Angaraparna. As his amazing chariot was already destroyed by way of Arjuna, Chitrarath modified his name from 'Chitrarath' to 'Dagdharath'. He gave tremendous Chakshushi vidya(seeing any desirable materials in any form)to Arjuna and a hundred horses to each brother for sparing his life. Arjuna initially denied such favour assuming that Chitrarath was offering them for sparing his life. However, to hold friendship, he gave agneyastra to Gandharva in return.
Arjuna then wished to understand that regardless of knowing the spiritual nature and intense strength how could Chitrarath assault them in the course of their tour in the night?
Chitrarath spoke back to him, "Due to the fact that you all(Pandavas) are unmarried at the time, you have in no way served Trividha fires and after finishing your study of Brahmacharya in your guru's ashrams, You are endowed with samavartanam sanskara: you are geared up for marriage life or grihastashrama yet you have in no way performed the fire sacrifice rituals and even appointed any priests for yourself." These were the motives for why he attacked him. Moreover, Chitrasen referred to him that, during night time Gandharvas' power used to be and also he was accompanied by his spouse in the water at that time, as a result, to exhibit his power in front of his wife he attacked them. He additionally informed him that, had there been any other Kshatriya apart from brave Arjuna, Gandharva would have killed that man by that time and Because of Arjuna's genuine celibacy, he was able to defeat Chitrarath.
After that, Chitrarath advised Arjuna to appoint one pious priest to make their lives successful and gave the instance of King Samvarana who had made Tapati his wife by taking the help of Sage Vashistha. Later Dhaumya was once appointed as the priest of Pandavas and Draupadi became the spouse of all five Pandavas.
