It seemed as if they had been anticipating anybody to rescue them from this type of scenario. Seeing his forefathers in such a situation, Jaratkaru asked them for a way out as they all were soon about to die.

Their forefathers said to him, “You’re a historical monk who practices celibacy or brahmacharya. We additionally own strong austerities and penance. our household manner of lifestyle is out of place considering we don’t have any descendants. All our saintly deeds are wasted for which we are falling in the direction of hell. We solely have one son named Jaratkaru, who never got married, no longer has any son, and continually searching for rigorous penance. due to this type of silly son, we're affected by agony.” After hearing this, Jaratkaru became truly disillusioned. He gave his forefathers his introduction and decided to alleviate them from such pain. Thus he determined to marry however with certain stipulations at that point. he mentioned,

As in keeping with his conditions, Vasuki nag; the snake king and the son of the outstanding sage Kashyap and Kadru gave her sister Manasa, whose name was also ‘Jaratkaru’(Known as Sarp-Devi Manasa) as alms to the sage. Additionally, the snake king took all the responsibilities of her sister agreeing to all of the sage’s situations. Then Sage Jaratkaru married Vasuki's sister and stayed inside the dwelling house of serpents. She used to be a completely dutiful and disciplined spouse toward the sage. She generally acted according to her husband’s morals and ethics to keep him extremely joyful.

One day, the sage was once drowsing on his spouse’s lap quickly after impregnating his spouse. It turned into sunset time and the sage needed to go for evening worship. His spouse was in a clumsy situation about whether or not to let her husband sleep peacefully or to wake him up for the agnihotra act the sage used to function in the evening. Maintaining the values of an ascetic in her thoughts, she mentions her husband,

“Sage! it’s time for your agnihotra and evening worship as the sun is setting down in the west. That aspect sky is looking red. This is the auspicious time to perform the havan as spirits roam all around at this time which may be very horrifying too.” Enraged sage mentioned, “You have offended me by saying such. even the solar doesn’t possess the energy to set down while a saintly individual like me drowsing. Considering that you've got humiliated me via your disagreeable wordings, I've decided to desert you."

Seeing his spouse in dilemma, he additionally referred to, as I had already mentioned with you earlier about my conditions, you must no longer grieve about it. My child whom you are carrying in your womb will be fierce like fire and a pious saint. ” Then the sage Jaratkaru by way of pronouncing ‘Asti’ left for the woodland. Later the toddler born to his spouse was once named ‘Astika’. Astika practised celibacy; austerities followed the religious principles stayed with the serpents and grew to be superb saints.

Those days kuru king Janamejaya commenced Sarpa Satra yajna. His goal turned to take revenge on Takshaka Nag who killed his father king parikshit(as elaborated in my previous put-up). Whilst Takshaka nag came to understand about the sarpa satra yajna finished by way of King Janamejaya, he went for the haven of Devaraj Indra. Indra consoled his pal Takshaka and assured him of his safety. Takshaka nag stayed there within the safety of the deity king Indra. while Vasuki; the snake king, understanding the yajna became agitated about his death alongside all the different snakes. he recalled in the past lord Brahma had advised him,

‘The only son of sage Jaratkaru and his wife; sister of Vasuki  can put a quit to this havan.’ Consequently, Vasuki asked his sister to send her son Astika to the havan area to rescue all the snakes from their painful death. Vasuki’s sister Jaratkaru then elaborated the whole lot to her son Astika,

“Son! My brother Vasuki Nag had married me off to your father Sage Jaratkaru for an intention. that point has come. Let me elucidate the purpose. Once upon a time, the mother of all the snakes named Kadru had a bet with his husband; sage Kashyap’s second spouse Vinata on the colour of the horse king; Uchaisravas’ tail. The losing person needed to turn out to be a slave of the other. Kadru had already cited the tail colouration to be black and had requested her sons to make the tail colour the same as cheating. The  snakes did not consider their mother, consequently, she cursed all of them to burn to ashes inside the havan hearth which would be done by King Janamejaya in the future.”

"At that point for the duration of the churning of the milk ocean, deities had obtained nectar by way of taking the assist of my brother Vasuki, who alongside all his brothers had long gone to Lord Brahma, and requested for help to relieve from their mother’s curse. All the deities had additionally pleased the lord alongside the snakes. Lord Brahma had stated Vasuki about you; Astika who can rescue the snake clan from such destruction."

Assuring his mother and Vasuki nag, Astika headed for the yajna mandap of King Janamejaya and was stopped at the entrance. He then began praying for the yajna to delight ritwicks, brahmins, and King JanamejayaAstika to eulogize them provided his prayers and admired the havan. Glad Janamejaya decided to present Astika as a boon at that point. At the same time concerned about the havan power, Indra left Takshaka nag there to die. Takshaka nag began falling from the sky toward the fireplace gradually. Takshaka Nag became horrified as he was getting near the havan kund. Astika thought this was the right time to ask for the boon. Janamejaya agreed to him.

Astika mentioned, “Oh king! I beg you to give up this yajna and snakes should now not fall into the fire.”

The king then requested Astika to take gold, adorns, and
cows as a substitute, as he did not desire to stop the snake sacrifice yajna. however, Astika did not give up and was determined to take that boon only. Janamejaya was glad and he granted the boon to Astika.

Whilst Takshaka was about to fall from the sky, that time Astika stopped him by pronouncing three times, stop there! stop there! stop there! That time Takshaka stopped there within the sky and stayed there hanging in between the sky and the earth. The Sarpa Satra yagnya stopped. The rest of the snakes along with Vasuki were rescued. all of them gave a boon to Astika. “by using reciting the mantra of Astika, no person may have difficulty with snakes in the future.”
