Tilottama Creates Dispute between Demon Sunda and Upasunda
After Pandavas were given barren land consisting of half of the Hastinapur by Dhritarashtra, they transformed it into a magnificent Indraprastha city and stayed there peacefully. Yudhishthira used to rule the kingdom truthfully. Naradaji visited them one day and created guidelines for the Pandavas to comply with in order to avoid conflicts among each other. He had recommended each Pandavas have a distinctive right to remain with Draupadi in the palace for one year and suggested no one break it except he wished to go an exile period of twelve years. While making the rule, Narada had instructed the Pandavas about the incident of Two demon brothers named Sunda and Upasunda who died on account of having lots of affection towards one female named Tilottama.

During the generation of Hiranyakashipu, there used to be a powerful demon named Nikumbha. Fierce demons Sunda and Upasunda were his son. They were dreadful and ruthless by means of nature. These two brothers used to stay together and do all their activities in the same way, thinking and agreeing mutually, as if they were two bodies but one soul. With a rigid plan to win over the whole universe, they commenced performing strict penance on the Vindhya mountain. Their physique grew to be pale. They used to cut and sacrifice their very own body parts into the fire. They even meditated whilst standing on their toe. Many deities tried to distract him by sending beautiful females, imparting much wealth to them, and by means of creating illusions of their household being hurt in front of them however, deities failed to destroy their penance.
Lord Brahma appeared in front of the demons and asked for boons aside from being immortal. Sunda and Upasunda then requested Lord Brahma that, "besides each other, there should be no one from whom they would have fear of death." Lord Brahma agreed and granted them. Both demons celebrated their success for many years. then they went in the direction of heaven and attacked the deities. Considering the boon of Lord Brahma in mind, all the deities deserted heaven and went to the Brahmaloka. Sunda and Upasunda after conquering Indraloka harmed many powerful demons, Yakshas in the sky, defeated the Mlech dynasty people residing near the seashore and ordered all his armies to massacre all the Brahmins as well as the royal sages who used to perform yajnas to please deities. Both the demons killed all the Brahmins and sages of the whole earth and ended the execution of the Yajnas. Only skeletons and bones were discovered everywhere.
Narada informed everything to Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma Was accompanied by all the deities, Siddho and Maharishis at that time. After hearing everything, to kill Sunda and Upasunda, Lord Brahma asked Viswakarma to create a tempting as well as irresistible woman. Viswakarma did it accordingly. No one on the entire lokas matched her eye-catching splendour of her. Her body was made out of components of jewels for which she was named 'Tilottama'. She offered her prayer to Lord Brahma and asked about the cause behind her creation. Lord asked her to entice both the demons by way of her exquisite charm until they combat with each other for her. Tilottama agreed and circled all around the deities. Lord Shiva and Lord Indra had created their four faces and thousands of eyes respectively to see the fascinating Tilottama in front of them.
After getting triumph over all the lokas, Sunda and Upasunda both used to spend their days in amusements. One day both the demons whilst enjoying alongside many beautiful women, luxurious meals, and alcohol on the Vindhya Mountain, noticed the enchanting Tilottama there. consumed via lust, they rushed toward her and expressed their desire to make her their wife. Sunda caught her by way of her right hand and Upasunda via her left. Being inebriated both of them began arguing with each other to own Tilottama personally. Tilottama seduced both of the brothers with her attractive eyes. In order to intimate with Tilottama, Sunda, and Upasunda took their mace in their hands, fought fiercely, and killed each other. Lord Brahma appreciated Tilottama and gave her boon that she would travel in each lokas as per her wishes even up to the distance of the sun and no one would be in a position to amorously look at her to one's satisfaction.
